Day 6: Strasbourg, France
Strasbourg was my favorite city of the trip. It reminded me of Belle’s village, but bigger We docked on the German side of the Rhine in Kehl, then hopped on a coach for a morning walking tour across the border into France.
Our guide was ADAMANT about being aware of pickpockets… so that’s honestly what stuck with me the most! But the cathedral was absolutely breathtaking and the astronomical clock inside was amazing. It was really interesting to learn about the history of the city and Petite France.
Strasbourg was getting ready for Christmas during our visit. The massive tree was in the works, the life-size nativity scene inside the cathedral was nearly finished, and the city was buzzing with preparations for its famous Christmas markets. Now I’m officially dying to return on a Christmas Market cruise!
After lunch on the ship, my dad headed out on the Mercedes-Benz factory excursion, while my mom and I enjoyed an afternoon of shopping in Strasbourg – so everyone had their perfect day.
If you have more time here, consider adding Colmar to your itinerary. It’s a popular excursion from Strasbourg, and I’ve heard nothing but glowing reviews. It’s on my “next time” list for sure.
That evening onboard, Viking hosted their Taste of Germany night. The staff wore lederhosen, pretzels and cheeses adorned each table, and a buffet of traditional German dishes took center stage. The highlight for me? A surprise gluten-free dessert made just for me: such a thoughtful touch!
