Rocky Mountaineer: Journey into the heart of luxury

By Megan

For over 30 years, Rocky Mountaineer has welcomed guests from around the world to experience luxury rail journeys in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and more recently, the stunning American Southwest. With breathtaking vistas of sky-high mountains and sparkling lakes, rugged canyons sprawling as far as the eye can see, and glimpses of abundant wildlife, there is a reason for everybody to explore the most spectacular natural wonders North America has to offer. Rocky Mountaineer is your gateway to the most exclusive and stunning sights of Western Canada and the American Southwest, all while enjoying world-class service onboard a luxury glass-dome train. Youโ€™ll explore iconic destinations like Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Denver, or Moab and experience the magic of famous national parks flanked by towering mountains and picturesque valleys.

Onboard, sprawling views of unforgettable landscapes are accompanied by award-winning service and regionally inspired cuisine. Before each season, Rocky Mountaineerโ€™s Executive Chef creates a menu inspired by the bounty of the passing regions, highlighting local ingredients such as crispy Lois Lake steelhead trout, prime Alberta striploin steak, and fresh Palisade peaches. Savour every second while the onboard Host team tops up your glass of wine, pours a handcrafted cocktail, or regales you with stories about the passing landmarks just outside your window. With four unique rail routes to choose from, the hardest part is deciding where to go. Retrace Canadian rail history on the most popular route, First Passage to the West, connecting the coastal city of Vancouver to the famous Rocky Mountain towns of Banff and Lake Louise. This two-day journey winds across British Columbia and Alberta, where icy glaciers and cascading waterfalls spill over ancient mountain peaks.

Guests can also travel between Vancouver to Jasper, Alberta onboard the Journey through the Clouds route. This awe-inspiring itinerary takes guests through some of the most breathtaking and pristine natural beauty on the planet, winding its way through British Columbia and Jasper National Park. Or, opt for the three-day Rainforest to Gold Rush route and journey from the worldโ€™s largest temperate rainforest, through arid desert and tranquil ranchland, and into the untamed wilderness of the Rocky Mountains.

Rocky Mountaineerโ€™s only US route, Rockies to the Red Rocks, winds between Denver, Colorado and the red sandstone wonders of Moab, Utah. This two-day journey launched in 2021 and boasts some of the best
highlights in the Southwest, from vast canyons and inspiring deserts to enchanting farmland studded with rolling peaks and valleys. At your destination, there is no shortage of activities and add-ons to explore. Guests can work with Rocky Mountaineer to create a customized itinerary to suit every interest, from whale watching off the coast of British Columbia to exploring the Columbia Icefields and Athabasca glacier in Jasper National Park. Those looking for a birds-eye view of Banff can ride the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain for a one-of-a-kind viewpoint over Canadaโ€™s most famous mountain ranges. If the desert is your calling, you can traverse ancient sand dunes in Arches National Park by sunset in a Hummer Safari. And from short walks to backcountry excursions, guests will find trails and parks suited for every skill level.

Effortlessly combining a sense of luxury with the spirit of the great outdoors, Rocky Mountaineer is a must-do travel experience that offers an unparalleled journey through one of the worldโ€™s most sought-after travel destinations.
