Day 5: Breisach, Germany & The Black Forest

We did “The Black Forest” excursion in the morning, a popular stop on many Germany river cruises. While the drive on the autobahn was scenic and our guide shared interesting history about the quaint towns we passed, the destination itself felt a bit touristy. So instead, I took a memorable photo with a local cow to capture the authentic countryside vibe.

If I had a do-over, I would book something like this!

That afternoon, we explored Breisach, the charming town where our ship was docked. We climbed up to the stunning Breisach Cathedral for breathtaking views over the Rhine. Later, I found a local grocery store — one of my favorite ways to experience a new place by shopping like a local and discovering regional specialties.

Back on board, Mom and Dad enjoyed feeding the ducks outside their French balcony cabin. What started as a peaceful moment almost turned into a scene from The Birds—followed by a gorgeous sunset over the river that perfectly ended the day.
