Best Day Trips from Paris: Easy Escapes Worth Taking

Paris is easy to enjoy. The cafés, the rhythm of the streets, the way a simple walk can turn into an entire afternoon… it’s enough on its own. But stepping just outside the city, even for a day, adds a completely different layer to the experience.
The pace shifts. The scenery softens. And suddenly, your trip feels a little more expansive without becoming overwhelming.
If you’re staying in Paris and want to see more of France without packing up and relocating, these are the day trips that are actually worth your time.
Palace of Versailles
Versailles is the most iconic day trip from Paris, and for good reason.
The scale alone is impressive, but what makes it memorable is how much there is beyond the palace itself. The gardens stretch for miles, and if you give yourself time to wander them (instead of rushing through the interiors), the experience feels far more balanced.
Going early (or later in the afternoon) can make a noticeable difference. And if you can, it’s worth booking a guided experience so you’re not navigating the crowds without context.
Giverny
Giverny feels like stepping into a painting—because it quite literally is.
The home and gardens of Claude Monet are soft, colorful, and incredibly peaceful when timed right. The water lily pond, the Japanese bridge, the flowers that seem intentionally imperfect—it all feels slower, quieter, and a little removed from reality.
It’s an easy escape, especially in spring and early summer, and pairs beautifully with a more relaxed travel pace.
Reims (Champagne Region)
If you want something that feels distinctly French without being overly structured, a day in Champagne is hard to beat.
Reims is the easiest access point, with beautiful architecture and historic champagne houses where you can taste and learn without rushing.
Booking a tasting or small group tour in advance makes the day feel seamless, and lets you focus on enjoying it instead of coordinating logistics.
Loire Valley
The Loire Valley is known for its châteaux, but what makes it special is everything in between.
Rolling countryside, small towns, vineyards – it’s a softer, more relaxed version of France that feels worlds away from the city.
While it’s a longer day trip, it works well if you choose one or two key stops instead of trying to see everything. A guided tour or private driver can make this much more enjoyable than trying to piece it together yourself.
Chartres
Chartres is often overlooked, which is part of its appeal.
The cathedral is stunning (known for its stained glass) but the town itself is quiet, walkable, and easy to enjoy without a strict plan.
It’s the kind of place where you can wander for a few hours, have a relaxed lunch, and head back to Paris feeling like you experienced something completely different without going far.
Mont Saint-Michel
This is the most ambitious day trip on the list, but also one of the most unforgettable.
Rising out of the water like something out of a storybook, Mont Saint-Michel feels surreal in person.
It does require an early start (or a guided tour to simplify the logistics), but if it’s high on your list, it’s absolutely doable, and worth it for the experience alone.
Choosing the Right Day Trip for Your Trip
Not every day trip fits every itinerary, and that’s okay.
If your time in Paris is limited, one well-chosen day trip is often more impactful than trying to fit in several. Think about what you’re craving:
- History and grandeur → Versailles (and VERY close to Paris)
- Art and nature → Giverny
- Food and wine → Champagne
- Quiet countryside → Loire Valley or Chartres
- Something iconic → Mont Saint-Michel
The key is choosing intentionally so it enhances your trip instead of exhausting it.
Make It Feel Effortless
Day trips sound simple… but timing, transportation, and reservations can quickly become overwhelming if you’re trying to coordinate everything yourself.
When it’s planned thoughtfully, it feels easy. You know where you’re going, how you’re getting there, and how the day will flow – without having to think about it in real time.
Through Styled Getaways, I design trips that include the right day trips, paced in a way that actually feels enjoyable, not rushed or overpacked.
