Google Maps (with offline maps)
Great for global navigation. Download maps ahead of time to use them without Wi-Fi — great for city exploring, even without cell service.
Citymapper
My favorite, and perfect for cities with public transportation. It shows you the fastest routes, when your bus or train is arriving, and even the best subway car to ride for a quick exit.
Uber
Available in many cities worldwide, Uber is great for quick, on-demand rides — especially when you’re landing late or heading out early. You can even schedule rides in advance.
Bolt
A popular alternative to Uber in parts of Europe and Africa, often with slightly lower fares and great service. Handy to have both apps downloaded so you can compare availability and pricing.

Google Translate
Instantly translate text, signs, and even conversations. Download languages in advance so you’re covered even if you go offline.
Pimsleur

Duolingo
Fun, gamified language learning for quick wins. It’s a great way to practice the basics daily leading up to your trip.

Revolut
A favorite among savvy travelers. Revolut lets you spend like a local with excellent exchange rates, instant currency conversions, and the ability to hold multiple currencies in one account.
